Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" INFANT'S WOOL, Article W 5. 5-1 oz. Balls Pink or any Color desired. 6 Buttons. Bone Crochet Hook No. 2 or No. 3.
WAIST BAND: Ch 13, work 12 s c on ch, (ch 1 to turn each row throughout sweater).
2nd Row. Working in the back loop of st only, 1 s c in each s c. Repeat the 2nd row 116 times, (about 18 inches) do not break yarn, turn and work a row of s c over the long side of band, working 1 s c in each row increasing 6 times spacing increases evenly. (124 s c.)
2nd Row. 1 s c in first s c, 1 d c in next s c, * 1 s c in next s c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * to end of row.
3rd Row. Start pattern, 1 s c in 1st d c, 1 d c in next s c, * 1 s c in next d c, 1 d c in next s c, repeat from * to end of row. (62 patterns: 1 s c and 1 d c form a pattern). Start each row with an s c and end each row with a d c. Continue working the same as 3rd row until work measures 7 1/2 inches from lower edge of band.
START RIGHT FRONT: Work over the first 15 patterns, ch 1, turn and work 9 more rows over the 15 patterns.
Next Row. Start decreasing for neck. Skip the first pattern at neck edge and work over the next 14 patterns.
Next Row. Work over 13 patterns omitting the last pattern at neck edge. Repeat the last 2 rows twice.
Next Row. Work back over the next 5 patterns, then 2 s c over each of the last 4 patterns, break yarn,

LEFT FRONT: Join yarn in 15th pattern from opposite side and work over the 15 patterns. Work 9 more rows over the 15 patterns.
Next 6 Rows. Decrease 1 pattern at neck edge each row.
Next Row. Work 2 s c over each of the next 4 patterns, then work in pattern over the last 5 patterns, break yarn.
BACK: Join yarn in 3rd pattern from right front and work in pattern leaving 2 patterns free between right and left front for underarm. (28 patterns.) Work 14 more rows over the 28 patterns.
Next Row. Work over 9 patterns for shoulder, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. Work over the first 5 patterns, then each of the last 4 patterns, break yarn.
Attach yarn in 9th pattern from armhole at opposite side. Work 1 pattern in each of the 9 patterns, ch 1, turn. Work 2 s c in each of the first 4 patterns, 1 pattern in each of the last 5 patterns, break yarn.
SLEEVE: Ch 9 and work 8 s c on ch. Work the same as sweater band for 32 rows. Over the long side of band work a row of s c increasing 6 times (38 s c) ch 1, turn. Work in pattern until sleeve measure 8 inches from lower edge of band.
Next Row. Start decreasing, decrease 1 pattern at the beginning and end of row, then decrease 1 pattern at the beginning of each row until 4 patterns remain break yarn. Work other sleeve in same manner.
Sew shoulder seams of sweater. Sew sleeve seam and sew sleeves in position. Attach yarn at right side at lower edge of waistband and work 1 s c in each of the 12 sts d c waistband, then continue up front to neck working 1 s c in each row of pattern. (48 s c) ch 1, turn.
2nd Row. Work 1 s c in each of the 48 s c.
3rd Row. 1 s c in each of the first 4 s c, * ch 3, skip 3 s c, (buttonhole) 1 s c in each of the next 5 s c, repeat from * 4 times, then ch 3, skip 3 s c, 1 s c in remaining s c, ch 1, turn.
Next Row. Work 1 s c in each s c and 3 s c over each ch 3 of buttonhole, ch 1, turn, then work 1 more row of s c even, break yarn.
Attach yarn at opposite side and work 5 rows of s c in same manner omitting buttonholes, break yarn.
COLLAR: Starting at the right front, work 1 s c in each of the 5 rows of s c hand, then work 13 s c to shoulder, work 2 s c over each pattern at back of neck, work 13 s c across left side and 5 s c over hand, break yarn.
Attach yarn in 3rd s c of right side over buttonhole, work around neck working 1 s c in each s c omitting the last 2 s c, turn, work 1 more row of s c even.
Next Row. Work 1 s c in each of the first 2 s c, 2 s c in next s c, * 1 s c in each of the next S s c, 2 s c in next s c, repeat from * 5 times, 1 s c in each remaining s c having -an even number of s c.
Work 1 more row of s c even. Finish collar with 5 rows of pattern, break yarn. Sew buttons in position.
