Home Decorating Tips: How to Incorporate “Scenterior” Design into your Home

(ARA) – With home renovation and redecorating at an all-time high, this year people are discovering that sight is not the only important sense when it comes to home design. Scent plays a key role in expressing style and creating ambiance and is at the forefront of design trends with innovations such as new scented oil candles.

Hot This Fall: “Scenterior” Design

In a recent Web-based survey for SC Johnson, 75 percent of women polled said scent is the most important feature of a candle, which makes it no surprise this staple is key to the hottest new design trend in home design.

Kenneth Brown, Hollywood’s hottest interior design expert and host of HGTV’s “redesign” shares the newest approach to decorating. “Just as people make their homes true havens by accentuating rooms with elements like color, fabric and furnishings, they are increasingly using favorite fragrances as a way to create ambiance.”

A growing interest in fragrances from candles is one of the latest focal points in home décor – literally. “’Scenterior’ Design means personalizing your space with beautiful scents to fill an entire room with fragrance and complete a design,” Brown explains.

Find the Perfect Candle

For its part, SC Johnson has smelled a true trend with the emergence of “Scenterior” Design. The company is introducing new Glade Scented Oil candles, innovative candles created to melt completely into a large pool of scented oil to provide quicker whole room fragrancing. The candles are designed to complement any home’s interior with soft-rounded edges and a simple, contemporary look. They fill an entire room with fragrance creating individual styles when paired with personal home décor.

Create Whole Room Fragrance

According to the survey, consumers spend up to $100 on simple room makeovers and/or sprucing up on a seasonal basis. Brown agrees that people are willing to spend time and money improving their surroundings and he thinks the timing is ripe for this new candle technology.

“By using the new Glade Scented Oil candle, consumers can get in on the “Scenterior” Design trend and make their settings more aesthetically pleasing for less than $10,” he points out. “It’s aromatherapy for the home, with a sleek look as well.”

The new candles retail for a suggested price of $6.99 for an entire starter kit (candle holder and two candles) and $2.99 for a pack of candle refills (three candles). For more information visit www.scentedoilcandles.com.

Expert Design Tips for Fall

Brown offers these additional simple ideas to help complete a room this fall:

* Don’t shy away from over-the-top accessories like fake zebra patterned pillows. They can liven up a room without becoming too overpowering.

* Adding ostrich feathers to a plain picture frame will help bring texture into a room in a subtle way.

* Use modern pillows with geometric shapes combined with traditional floral patterned pillows.

* Don’t be afraid to pair unusual color schemes such as orange and pink together. The colors blend well and really brighten up a room.

* Try using wallpaper in your closet to give a unique fun design to your personal space.

* Place multiple candles throughout the house for all-around ambiance. They should be part of the design of a room as well as give off a scent.

* Scented candles. “Nearly 90 percent of American households use and enjoy candles and fragranced products, and four out of five people think they make great gifts,” says Rick Ruffolo, senior vice president of brand, marketing, and innovation for the Yankee Candle Company. “Candles are a great gift choice because of their broad appeal, the wide variety of scents, colors, designs and prices, and unlike fruit baskets, candy and flowers – the recipient can enjoy your gift in their home for a long time.”
