(ARA) – Chances are you’ll be welcoming guests into your home during the winter holiday season that lasts from Thanksgiving to the New Year. As you think about sprucing up your home for holiday entertaining, don’t forget about the bathroom. After all, it’s a good bet that’s one part of your home that just about every guest will visit.
Now, before the onset of the holiday rush, is a great time to give your bathroom some added style. It doesn’t have to cost a lot of money – we’re not talking total rehab. Small details can make a big difference.
Start by looking at your bathroom as a visitor would. You see it every day, and it’s easy to overlook certain quirks. For example, does the tile look worn? Are the towels fraying? Do you have to jiggle the toilet handle after use? Make a wish list of things you’d like to update and then see what fits your budget. Here are some tips to help get you started.
First Things First
If your bathroom is in pretty good shape, perhaps all you need to do is freshen up your accessories:
* Invest in plush guest towels in your favorite color, or choose towels with a holiday theme.
* A new rug helps add warmth to the room, and can help camouflage worn floors.
* Add a scented candle, both for beauty and for the gentle way it freshens the air.
* New accessories, such as a towel bar or toilet paper holder, are easy to install and can give your bathroom instant personality.
Tackle Repairs
If it has been a while since you updated your bathroom, this might be a good time to tackle some small home improvement projects:
* Does the tile look dingy? New grout can make a huge difference and is a project you can finish in a weekend.
* A fresh coat of paint in a new, exciting color is one of the quickest ways to update your bathroom.

* New hardware on the cabinets and door, or a new faucet, add a lot of style for a reasonable cost, as can a new mirror.
Time for Something Completely Different?
If you’re living with an avocado green sink or a pink toilet, this is a great opportunity to replace these fixtures.
* Visit your local home improvement store to see the various styles available. Choose one that fits the character of your house.
